How to actually use and how not to use Exploratory testing

Exploratory testing is one of the most powerful tools in any tester’s toolbox. It can be useful at any time, and for any purpose. You don't need to use it only for functional testing. Every good tester knows that it is possible to explore security, performance, usability ... And those are just a few.

But.. be carefully .. Exploratory testing is actually a double-edged sword. It may come back to you when you least expect it.

In this talk, I'll give you my experience and examples, when exploratory testing was useful to me, and when it came back to me like a boomerang. I’ll give you advices when and how I find it most useful, and share my best practices. Also, I will demonstrate usage of some small but useful open-source tools which are quite handy while exploring. And none of them is a compass! You’ll have to find your own…
